Grown with love. Ground with flavor.
Grown with love. Ground with flavor.

Before Salt & Seed was born, I was creating seasoning grinders for my own use, inspired by products I had purchased abroad. I wanted to share my creations with friends and family, thus turning my hobby into something more.
I grow what I can at home, either in my indoor mini garden or outdoors when the seasons allow. What I can't grow, I purchase locally whenever possible. I dehydrate all fresh ingredients myself, so they have not been sitting on a store shelf losing potency.

Born and raised in Southwest Michigan.
Mom to 2 boys & married since 2018. My family is my happy place. I enjoy cooking, creating, gardening, skincare, learning, traveling, and helping others. Supporting me means empowering a small, woman-owned business dedicated to making your culinary adventures brighter and tastier!
These are perfect for everyday use across a variety of dishes. All fresh ingredients have been dehydrated. All use pink sea salt.

The Homestead Classic is by far the most popular and in my opinion, the most versatile. I find myself reaching for the Garden Thyme as well.
All recipes use pink sea salt.
Most 70 ml grinder recipes are around 30% salt. Of that 30%, approximately 2/3 is a semi-coarse salt grain and 1/3 is a coarser grain. The coarser grain helps balance better with the size of the peppercorns.
Most recipes use approximately 10% peppercorns.
Legally, I cannot make that claim, so the short answer is no.
The longer answer is a little more nuanced.
I use my own homegrown herbs whenever possible and do not use pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers. I also compost our food scraps and unused produce to naturally enrich our soil.
When I do need to purchase ingredients elsewhere, I prefer supporting small, local farmers. Many small farmers use the same practices as I do but cannot legally label their products “organic” because of some of the certification requirements. Personally, I care more about sustainable and regenerative farming practices than the organic label itself.
“Organic” does not mean pesticide or fertilizer-free either. And depending on the crop, organic agriculture can require more land and water usage to achieve the same yield as "conventional" farming.
In sum, I don't seek out “organic” produce for myself or my family. If you only purchase organically grown produce, my products may or may not meet that standard.
Short answer is Yes but I also don't believe I can legally make that claim either.
GMO labeling also isn't really relevant for my products, but the question gets asked so I will address it anyway.
There are only 11 commercially grown GMO crops in the United States (as of 2026). Those crops are: summer squash, apples, alfalfa, pink pineapple, potatoes, sugar beets, papaya, soybeans, corn, cotton, and canola. Source: The FDA https://www.fda.gov/food/agricultural-biotechnology/gmo-crops-animal-food-and-beyond
I don't use any of the above crops. So yes, technically my products meet Non GMO specifications
Some ingredients are sensitive to humidity (this includes a steamy pot) and may get gummy if exposed to moisture. They may become caked inside the grinder if repeatedly exposed, as I do not use any anti-caking agents
Hardier herbs like garlic, rosemary, thyme, and oregano are generally fine to use with heat. Cooking (heat) can enhance their flavor and aroma. I use Homestead Classic or Garden Thyme to season most foods prior to cooking.
Sensitive herbs like basil, cilantro, mint, and dill may lose flavor if exposed to too much heat (mainly referring to the cooking process. adding to cooked foods is okay)
Grind the ingredients into your palm or the lid first before adding to cooked foods (try not to use over a steamy pot/pan). This helps to keep the grinder and unused ingredients away from moisture. *This is best practice for ANY seasoning, not just these
